10 September 2012

Hey Family,

So, this week not too much happened. Had our ward conference, got to see a few people in stake callings that I knew. So that was cool. We had a zone meeting, where the whole zone got together for 3 hours and the zone leaders trained us. They trained separately. I liked the first zone leaders training, but I didn't so much like the second one. The second frustrated everybody. He was pretty much telling us to step it up and be better because "they"(the zone leaders) were carrying the zone numbers wise. It was really stupid. It's just that one zone leader though, the other one is really nice.

The rest of the week was nice though. Met some interesting people, as per usual. We tracted into a nerdy frat house. We talked to one of the guys for a really long time and he recorded our conversation to put on his website. His websites purpose is to show that people can get along while talking about their opinions and stand points without arguing. It's a really good idea and intention. It was just really awkward.

We also taught an old guy this week who we are going to meet with again this week and he offered to take us out to dinner. So that is pretty sweet.

I loved the package by the way. The other set of elders in Terre Haute stayed the night last night and I made the biscuits and gravy this morning. It was really good. Thank you so much. And the banana bread is super good too.

I am going to be getting another box or 2 today so I can start packing more things in them to send home. So be looking for more boxes in the next couple of weeks.

Sounds like you just need to stay away from knives for the rest of your life, mom. You just have a bad track record with them. Maybe you should have somebody else cut stuff for you. I still haven't had any stitches ever, I should have when I cut my finger on the rafting trip, but it wasn't available. Oh, well. I think I am the only one in the family that has never had stitches or broken bones. I don't think I have ever had to go to the emergency room because of me, except for when I was born.

Well, that is kinda weird that I haven't met Mitchell's girlfriend either. It is just gonna be weird coming home and meeting all these new people. The thing I want to do the most, besides being with my family of course, is getting back in contact with my friends. I haven't heard from them in 2 years except for Tyler, so I really want to hang out with them again.

Well, I have been doing good this week. We found 2 new investigators, so that was exciting. We are going to have our stake conference this coming Saturday and Sunday. There is going to be Elder Archibald from the 6th quorum of the seventy coming. And I am going to get to see everybody that I know from the University ward and Bedford. I am super stoked for that.

We are also having President interviews this Wednesday, pretty excited about that as well. My last one before my departing interview in the mission home. Crazy!
So that is pretty much what is going on here.

Love,
Elder Robertson

4 September 2012

Hey Family,
So this week was pretty good. We had a lot of things cancel on us, but we didn't let that bother us. One thing that did bother me though was when I had to report district numbers to the zone leaders. So as a district, we had 11 lessons among the 3 companionships. The zone leader I was talking to was like, "we had 11 lessons just by ourselves".  He just couldn't accept that that many lessons could cancel. It was stupid.
We had a great preparation day yesterday though. So on Sunday night, the other 2 companionships came and slept over at our apartment. So there was 6 missionaries in that apartment, it was so much fun. It was like a district slumber party. We won't be doing it ever again because we didn't get to sleep until after midnight. We did a lot of physical activity at the church and it was super fun. We are all super sore today though. and I jammed one of my toes really bad and it hurts a lot, but oh well. It was totally worth it.
We had a few good lessons with some investigators. We haven't been able to meet with most of them though. We are doing a lot of tracting and stuff and trying to get in contact with those people that I told you about last week. Not too much is happening around here though, we are just trying to meet with people consistently and helping a few of them progress towards baptism.
I got another crazy email today. It was my final flight itinerary. I can't believe it is this close. I love my mission and all, but I am exhausted and worn out. I am kinda excited to get home and rest a while.
Oh! Cool story. So this member was visiting some family in the area and he came to our ward on Sunday. He is from Rexburg, Idaho and I told him I would be going to school up there. He was like "you should totally get in contact with me when you get up there and I'll hook you up." So looks like I am getting some connections up there.
So that was my week.
Well, I have to get off now so I can go do missionary work, Love you!!

27 August 2012

Hey Family,
So last week I said I was unhappy about being transferred. I'm not anymore! I now know that I was transferred here to Terre Haute to see a little bit of success before I go home. Brownsburg was a sweet area with the coolest ward ever, but the work was very, very slow. Here it seems like people are much more open to listen. I am in the Honey Creek ward in Terre Haute. The ward here is pretty cool too, the sacrament meeting yesterday was pretty sweet. The last speaker was hilarious. My new companion's name is Elder Ewell, he is from Murray, Utah. He has been out 6 months. So I am not training anymore which I am happy about because the missionary I was training wouldn't talk ever. So this is a nice change. This missionary is a clutz though. The day after transfers, he crashed on his bike and apparently he does that pretty often. It was really funny cause I was riding behind him and he just went down suddenly and while he was sliding he was like "dang it!" It was super funny.
Mom, you are going to love this, you too Hailey. There is a girl who just got baptized about a month ago. Her name is ***** Disney, and guess who her great, great uncle is. You guessed it, it's Walt Disney! She is super cool too. She texted us last night and told us that one of her essays got published in a book, so she is officially an author now. She is going to be fixing some clothes of mine cause she is a seamstress.
The work is going very well here. We are teaching a family that will be getting baptized in September. It looks like I will be giving a lot of baptism interviews in September because the two other areas in the district have a few people on baptism dates this upcoming month. So that is exciting. There are also a few young men in the ward that are preparing for missions right now. They like to help us out and they are super cool.
We had a super cool experience on Friday while we were tracting. So we start tracting this street and it turns out that it is not much of a street, all the houses were facing the next street over. So we keep walking down this "street" and then it just turns into this guy's backyard. We walk up just as he is walking over to his archery target to pull out his arrows. So we go up and I start talking to him about bow hunting. Turns out he is heading out of town to go to Tennessee to do some boar hunting with his bow. He has also been to Iraq and got back a few years ago. He also said that he met some mormons in the army and he has read the whole Book of Mormon. So we would have tried to teach him right there but he was about to head out. So we set up another time to go back and teach him. The he let us cut thru his yard to get to the other street so we could knock on some doors. So we knock a few houses and we got let into another house of a young couple who has been married for 2 years and the wife grew up mormon but her dad got excommunicated when she was 7 so her family quit going and she never got baptized. We got to set up a return appointment for Tuesday and they are going to get a pizza for us because she said that her mom would kill her if she didn't feed us. Then we continued tracting. We knocked on a few more doors and finally an old man came out on his front step to talk with us. We came to find out that his wife died not too long ago, he got all emotional while talking about it. We were able to testify that he would see her again and that they could be together forever. He had a total change of heart while we were there. It started off with him saying that missionaries had already come by and that he usually tells them he goes to the church down the road. By the end he said that we could come back. It was awesome. But that is not the end. So we start heading down the road because it is getting to be about the time that we leave. We came across a little dog in front of a house, it didn't have a collar on so we didn't know if it belonged to them or not. This guy from the house behind us came out and got his mail. He said that dog did belong to those people and that it was super annoying. So we were about to walk away because we were going to go to our next plan but the guy said "so what do you guys do?" We told him who we were and he said "well your gonna have a tough time with me!" So we get to talking with him and he has been in an accident at his job which left him unable to work anymore, his wife left him shortly thereafter, he is constantly in pain because of his condition now, and he said the only thing that has kept him from committing suicide is his kids. So we continued talking with him and he asked us why God would let those things happen to him. So we pulled out a copy of the Book of Mormon and showed him 2 scriptures, one out of the Isaiah chapters in first Nephi and then Ether 12:27. He loved those scriptures. We then offered him the copy of the Book of Mormon we were holding and he very gratefully received it. Then we exchanged goodbyes and he said as we were leaving "thanks guys, you just recharged my batteries!" This was the most spiritual experience I have had on my mission while tracting. God made everything happen during that time to allow us to be walking by that guys house when he came outside. He even said it himself, "there must have been some reason God put you here when I came outside." God definitely prepares his children!
This has definitely been one of the best weeks of my mission.

Elder Robertson

20 August 2012

Hey family,

I'm not very happy today. Because I got the call, once again, that I am being transferred. It doesn't make any sense. I have only been here for one transfer and I only have one transfer left, I don't know why they would move me now. I wanted to stay here so bad, this is a sweet ward. We had to give talks on yesterday by the way. I am pretty upset about moving AGAIN. I thought I was done moving.

Well if you want to know about the work, it was slow again this week. We tried committing somebody to baptism but they declined. It was a part member family. The husband is coming back into activity, he picked up tobacco while he was inactive. The 2 kids were recently baptized a few months ago. So we invited the nonmember wife to be baptized. She said no because she was waiting for her husband to be worthy to baptize her. He even said that she didn't have to wait for him and that he didn't want to hold her back. But she couldn't see anybody else baptizing her but him. So we understood.

That was pretty much the only big thing that happened this week. We were told on Wednesday night that they needed us to speak in sacrament meeting. So at least we were given more heads up than a call on Saturday afternoon. This talk went fairly well I think. I wasn't shaky or nervous or anything. Elder Madsen on the other hand was super shaky and visibly nervous. I was sitting next to another speaker who was baptized about 2 months ago, she's an 18 year old girl and super funny. I spoke on the Restoration and Elder Madsen spoke on the Plan of Salvation, the first 2 lessons in Preach My Gospel. We pretty much taught a lesson over the pulpit. It was sweet.

Also on Wednesday night, we went to a mens choir practice that the ward is doing. It is so cool, I am super bummed that I won't be able to do it anymore. They are doing everything acappella. I am going to copy the music and maybe we can sing it as a family when I get home. That would be awesome!

Anyways, that was my week.

Elder Robertson

13 August 2012

Hey Family,

So this week I had my final zone conference. Which usually means that I would have to bear my testimony. But, for whatever reason, they didn't have the departing missionaries bear their testimonies. I think it was because Elder Christoffel Golden Jr. was there and we were doing things his way. So, I didn't have to bear my testimony. I was kinda looking forward to it, but whatever. The zone conference was sweet though, Elder Golden was awesome. So was everybody else's trainings. Sister Golden told us something I hadn't known. She was talking about Mother Theresa and how she was a catholic nun. She told us that when she had died, the catholic church canonized her, which means they turned her into a saint. So that was pretty interesting. I also had to get my temple recommend renewed by President Collins after all the meetings were over.

So the work was slow again this week. Funny story though. So a few weeks ago we tracted into this 16 year old girl who was home alone. So we asked if we could come back to talk with her parents sometime. She told us that probably the only time we would be able to meet them was that night because they were leaving for a mission trip the following week and would be gone for a week. So we went by that night and nobody was home. So we waited until this last Saturday to go back. So we went there at about 2 in the afternoon. The same girl answered and told us her parents weren't home again. So we asked for another time that they would be home and she said that we could try back later that night but she wasn't totally sure they would be home. So we went back that night anyways. She was still the only one home. So we were talking with her for a few minutes, then she started trying to end the conversation by saying that we had interrupted her playing Assassin's Creed. I was like "your a gamer!?" It was pretty funny. So then we talked for another 10 minutes. She is super into videogames, it's just stupid silly. There's your story Hailey.

We went to Why I Believe last night, it was pretty cool. There were lots of speakers. One of them was a convert from the ward I am serving in right now. She is an 18 year old girl, and she just got called to be the Laurels president. She is super funny too. Hailey, you would love her.

So that was pretty much my week. Hope you liked the stories!

Elder Robertson

6 August 2012

Hey Family,

So this week was pretty slow. We didn't have many lessons. We had some lessons that were scheduled, but they all cancelled. It has been a very long week. We are struggling to find new investigators. We are doing all we can, but for some reason, it is still a very slow process.

This week should be fun though. We have zone conference on Friday, which I will have to bear my departing testimonty at because it will be my last zone conference. Elder Christoffel Golden Jr. is going to be there, from the 70. He will be going around to random missionaries apartments and inspecting them. We don't know if he will do ours, but since we are close to the mission home, we may get a visit. We are going to have to make sure our apartment stays clean all week long.

So that is pretty much what is going on out here. We have some teaching appointments this week, so hopefully they won't cancel this time. I had a fun exchange with our zone leaders this week though. His name is Elder Lyman and he was super funny. He is a spanish missionary, so he was telling me how first contacts with mexicans go. Usually they will agree with everything you say, they will say that Joseph Smith is totally a prophet, and then when you commit them to be baptized, they say, "I can't, I'm catholic." It was pretty funny because they all say the same thing!

So that was my week.

Elder Robertson

Hey Mom,

I'm doing alright. We are just having a lack of success here in Brownsburg. We are doing our best to turn it around, but it is just hard. I'm not really that discouraged, but what is getting me down is the fact that Elder Madsen is getting discouraged. I just want him to see success as a missionary and I want to set the standard for him. It has been on my mind this whole transfer because he is a new missionary. I just want to be a good example to him.

The weather has been really freakin hot the past few days. Luckily we got a little bit of rain Saturday and early Sunday morning. I just hope we get some more rain soon to help it cool down here. This summer has been flying by though, despite the ridiculous heat.

Yeah, it is a little frightening to think about bearing my testimony in front of a general authority, but I won't be looking at him, I'll be looking at 3 zones worth of missionaries. I can't believe the time is already here for me to do this. The last time I was up at the pulpit at a zone conference was when I gave my testimony at my first zone conference. It's crazy!

I am proud of you for standing up for what we all know to be true. Way to go!

Love.

So that was my week,

30 July 2012

Hey Family,

So this week was pretty sweet. We got to go on exchanges with the assistants on Tuesday. I went with Elder Mecham, who has been out as long as I have. It was a lot of fun being with him. Since the assistants don't ride bikes very much, he was pretty pooped by the end of the day. We had a trainer/trainee meeting on Thursday. That was awesome. We received training from President Collins and each of the assistants. I always love hearing from our beloved mission president.

So Elder Madsen went with Elder Ovard on his exchange on Tuesday. They got to teach a few lessons. One of which they set a baptism date with. Unfortunately, we found out at church that the person they commited to baptism was drunk. So we aren't counting that until we are able to have another lesson with him. Elder Mecham and I just did a lot of biking and tracting. We did find a few potential investigators though, so that was cool.

We had a nice dinner with a family on Wednesday night. They told of some ghost stories in their house. I couldn't get to sleep that night :(

So that was pretty much our week. We just did a lot of going by less-active members, tracting, and eating at people's houses.

Elder Robertson

23 July 2012

Hey Family,

So this week was sort of eventful. Saturday was the weirdest day of the week. So around 1 in the afternoon, we received a call from a less-active member who has had a homeless guy living in his house for a few days. So he asked us to come over and help get him out. So we went over there and he was just sitting outside his house in a camping chair. So we asked him where the homeless guy was and he said he was inside sleeping on the futton. So he made up this plan to get him out and we pretty much didn't do anything, he did it all. We were just there for moral support I guess. Well he finally left after saying a lot of bad words and taking a pair of clean socks and taking a bag of food. Then we almost saw a fight on Saturday because somebody was tailgating another guy.

We got to go out with the bishop to see a few people on Saturday as well. It was pretty awesome. After everybody we went by weren't home, we went to a less-actives house who bishop wanted to see. It was pretty intense. He was so bold with him, didn't sugar-coat anything. I guess that was the only way to get through to this guy. Bishop invited him to come to church but he ended up not coming. The reason this guy doesn't come to church is because he thinks it's boring. The Bishop didn't like that answer. He said "I really don't like it when somebody comes to me and says that church is boring because it's not my job as a bishop to entertain you". It was a pretty intense lesson, I enjoyed every bit of it, even though he didn't come to church, I learned from the bishop that sometimes you just have to be super bold.

We will be getting 3 new investigators this coming week. One of them is a referral from the Avon missionaries, they taught her one lesson and then sent her our way because she lives in our area. The other 2 are headquarters referrals. It is a spanish couple. They went to Hawaii and saw the temple and the sister missionaries. The wife gave them her information so that she could learn more. A lot of her family are members down in South America, so she wants to learn more, it seems like she is going to get baptized. Her husband is Catholic, so we will se what we can do there.

So that was pretty much our week. A little weird. A little fun. But overall good.

Love,
Elder Robertson

You asked about my companion.  He is from Brigham City, Utah. He is quiet most of the time, unless we are at home by ourselves, then he talks a lot. He is a diabetic. He wears glasses. He is a little taller than me. He is sort of athletic, but didn't play sports in high school.

Gotta go.  Love you.

True story.

This is Elders Madsen and Robertson.

This was taken at church July 29th by a sister in the ward. How did I get this photo? Here's the cool part.....

So when we found out that Brogan would be serving in Indiana, my friend and Beehive teacher from when I was a Beehive told me she had friends in Indiana!  We hoped that he would make it there!!  Finally, he did.  And not just in thier building, thier ward!! So one of these friends took this picture and sent it to my friend, Kathy. and voila!  I get to see my boy!! Doesn't he look great!?!

I must admit, the only thing I recognize is his face, the white shirt and his name!!!  hahaha
Seems he's just like his mom in aquiring new clothing!  Gotta love it!!

16 July 2012

Hey Family!

So I got sent back to Indianapolis. Well, I am just a little bit outside it in Brownsburg, but I would still consider it Indy.

So I sent off another package this week, you will probably get it today or tomorrow. It is just more stuff that I don't need anymore. Next I need to send a few pairs of shoes home.

So my new companion is from Brigham City, Utah. Shocker! His name is Elder Madsen, no relation to Truman G. Madsen, so he says. This is his second transfer in the field, so I am finishing up the second half of his training. He is the youngest companion I have had thus far. We don't have much going on here in B-Burg, and I think it is really bumming him out. But I am sure this week we will have more success than former weeks. We have a few appointments set up, so hopefully they don't cancel. We will also be trying to find new investigators, because the ones we have now aren't really going anywhere.

The ward here is huge! It is one of the biggest wards I have been in my whole mission. They have to open the overflow every week. We also have a dinner appointment every night for the rest of the month, it's pretty sweet. This ward is totally opposite of what I just came from. It is good though. There are lots of awesome families here. This is as close as I think I will ever get to being in a Utah ward.

My last couple days in Bedford I spent seeing people that I came relatively close with. The very last thing I did there was have a lesson with a less-active family whose daughter totally had a crush on me. She was my age too, it kinda weirded me out. Unfortunately I didn't get to say goodbye to an investigator that I came very close with. So I will probably send him a letter.

So that is pretty much what happened this week. And yes, I am still a district leader.

Love,
Elder Robertson

9 July 2012

Hey Family,

So I got a call from President Collins this morning. He told me I was getting transferred and that I needed to finish up the second half of a new missionaries training. I was hoping to stay, but I know I am needed elsewhere. And I am happy with that.

So the 4th of July was pretty fun. We went up to Bloomington and played some volleyball with the other missionaries up there, it was a lot of fun. I would have to say that volleyball is my favorite non-contact sport. It gets pretty intense. I love going up for the spike!

So I had an exchange with Elder Lowe on Friday, who is in the University ward right now. His companion is struggling a lot and he pretty much dumped everything on me that he has learned about this missionary. My hat goes off to Elder Lowe for being so patient and loving with his companion. I offered whatever advice and encouragement I could. Luckily for Elder Lowe, his companion is getting transferred. I love this other missionary, but he has some issues to work out. I just hope he gets out of his mission what the Lord has intended for him.

We got a new investigator this week. His name is Josh and has a wife and 3 daughters. He was pretty cool. He works at a stone mill. He is 31 years old. He accepted what we taught and we gave him a Book of Mormon and commited him to begin reading it, we also commited him to baptism when he learned for himself that this is true, and he accepted.

So those were some things that stuck out this week. It was super hot all week, but we had a good time as well.

No, I am not living near a river. We just had some pretty strong winds and some rain. North of us it poured cats and dogs, and they got some hail almost the size of golf balls. It cooled down so much, it was heavenly! We were so grateful to get the rain and cooler weather, it has just been so hot out there lately. But apparently it is supposed to stay cooler all week which will be a nice change. That is pretty exciting that Parker got ordained a priest! I'm proud of him.  Sounds like everything is super busy back home.

Well, I am getting transferred once again. Hopefully this is the last time until the big transfer. So I will be spending some time packing during these next two days. It's too bad that I can't stay and see these investigators progress, but oh well. I'll go where He wants me to go.

love,
Elder Robertson

2 July 2012

Hey Family,

So this week was super hot. It was so sweaty and nasty and miserable. We spent a lot of time tracting, so that didn't help. It did rain last night though and it dropped about 30 degrees which was nice, but now there is more humidity in the air.

So we had 4 appointments set up for Saturday, and they all sadly fell through. They either weren't there or didn't answer. That's missionary work for you. It just makes you appreciate the people who actually keep appointments and commitments. Which reminds me! We have an investigator who is on house arrest until September 9th. He is doing great! He is reading the Book of Mormon every day, except for when he gets a sunburn on his eyes from welding.  We commited him to baptism on September 29th, just a few weeks after he gets off house arrest, and it's on my 2 year mark! He told us of a few stories of some things he had to do while in Iraq that he is very unproud of and that has scarred him for life. What he is struggling with now is forgiving himself. He didn't break the Thou Shalt Not Kill commandment luckily, but he is still grieving over what he has seen and done. He knows God will forgive him, he just wants to forgive himself, which will take a lot of time. I never want to see what he has seen. I had a sweet exchange with the zone leaders on Saturday. Elder Wilson really helped me out with my responsibilities as a district leader. He was so much fun to be with. We didn't talk about home or anything except for missionary work all day long. It was sweet.

The rest of the week was pretty good, just super hot. Thank you so much for the those hawaii'n punch pops, they are really good!

Love,
Elder Robertson

25 June 2012

Hey!

This week was pretty good. A lot of it was spent outside walking and tracting. So it was pretty hot. I was pretty sweaty. Luckily I have a camel back to haul a lot of water in so i can stay hydrated. I've been putting ice cubes in with the water so it will stay cold longer, it's nice. We have found a few new people to go back and see and hopefully teach. That has been very nice because we have been trying to find people who will progress and keep commitments. We found a really sweet guy in the area book 2 weeks ago. He let us right in and we answered some of his questions for him. The we went back this last Tuesday with a member and they really connected well. This guy's name is Will. He had researched a little on the internet and wrote up some questions in between the two lessons. Some of them were definitely anti-mormon, but luckily it didn't affect him. We and the member were able answer all of his questions. During the lesson the member had mentioned something about guns. Then at the end, Will started talking to them about guns and told us that he had 28 guns! He has a flippin' arsenal! So the member and Will exchanged numbers and they will be staying in contact. We will be having another lesson with him tomorrow with the same member.

The rest of the week was pretty normal, nothing spectacular to report. Well, I did find a dead racoon on the side of the road that I picked up and took a picture with, but thats about it. Our talks went well on Sunday. We also had to give the lesson in Primary, that was pretty fun. Some of those kids are really funny, and some of them actually know a lot which surprised me.

Well, this week we have president interviews. That should be fun. We will also be setting our zone baptism goal fo next month just before that with all the district leaders in the zone, and also the zone leaders. Usually we have done it over the phone, so it will be nice to do it in person for once.

Love,
Elder Robertson

18 June 2012

Hey Family!

So this week was pretty warm, I was sweating most of the time. I hate this time of year for missionary work only because of all the sweatiness. If it wasn't for the sweatiness, nastiness, and stinkiness, I'd be fine with it.

So my training in district meeting went well this week. The zone leaders sat in on it. I had planned to train on our purpose as missionaries and the doctrine of Christ. There were a few things that we ended up talking about that I didn't even plan on talking about. It turned out to be a very Spirit directed meeting. The zone leaders really admired that I was able to go with the flow and not get upset for getting off track of what I was planning on. I guess I have what you call an open canon of revelation instead of a closed canon, just like this church. One of the cool things that was brought up that was unplanned was that when we are unified with our companion in teaching the doctrine of Christ, we are also unified with the Godhead. Pretty powerful stuff, right?

We spent a lot of this week going by people who said that they would like us back but haven't been there when we returned. So we dropped a lot of them. We also did a lot of tracting this past week and now we have a few appointments set up with new people. We are pretty excited about that. We have been spending too much time hanging onto people who won't progress, so we dropped them. Now the Lord is blessing us with new people to teach. It is awesome!!

We probably won't be going up to Bloomington for P-Day the rest of the month because we are going to be tight on miles. We still have to go up there 2 more times and that will be all we will have miles for. So we will stay down here for the next 2 P-Days. I have a talk coming up next Sunday in Sacrament meeting, not quite sure what exactly I'm going to say, but whatever. I just know it is on missionary work. So it shouldn't be too hard. We also have interviews with the mission president next wednesday. So that's what I got going on.

Love,
Elder Robertson

You know what I realized this week? I really don't have much longer on my mission. It blew my mind. Next transfer I will have to get up at zone conference and give my departing testimony. Then I will only have one transfer after that. Crazy! I can't believe I am actually that close to being done!

My bad!!

Well, for those of you who read this blog....let me apologize as I pick up my Worst missionary mom award!! (OK, maybe that's a little too harsh!!) I have been so bad at keeping his blog up to day!! However, for you the reader, you can get caught up in one sitting!!  Please forgive me.

11 June 2012

Hey Family,

So my birthday was okay. Nobody fed us, so I made myself a ham sandwich for my birthday dinner. The exciting thing was that as we were driving somewhere, there was a turtle in the road and I stopped and took a few pictures with it. It was pretty sweet, I was hoping to find a snake as well, but the turtle was pretty awesome. This birthday was the most normal day of my life. I'm not complaining though, it wasn't a bad day, it just didn't feel like a birthday.

So we finally got in contact with some investigators that we haven't seen in a while. We saw Leon who got in contact with an old pastor friend. We had a nice conversation with him but it was cut short because he had to go help his son. We also got in contact with a girl named Sierra. She is looking for a church but is very sceptical about jumping into anything without knowing enough about it. So she is taking it slow and steady. We found a few other people who invited us back, one of which said that she has never heard anything about our church before. Perfect! A fresh start without any outside influences.

The training up in Fishers was pretty fun. We received training from President Collins and a training from each of his assistants. Then at the end we just counciled with President Collins for 45 minutes over any issues in the mission. It was pretty sweet to be in a setting like that with all the district leaders of the mission. President Collins told us how important we are to the mission. He said that we are like the bishops of the mission, we hear problems from other missionaries, we give training every week, and we report on our district every week to our zone leaders. We are also entitled to revelation on behalf of our district, which I have experienced. I never thought being a district leader would be this awesome. I just hope this isn't preparing me for a similar calling in the future.

So that was my week. Sounds like everybody else had good weeks as well according to the emails I have received.

Love,
Elder Robertson

From The Mormon Expresses mom:
So happy this one was alive!!  Isn't my son handsome?!!  I just love him to pieces!!  Looks like he hasn't gained an ounce since he has been out!!

Hey Family!

So this week was alright. We got one new elder to our district and he seems pretty cool. His name is Elder Lowe and he is from Utah, shocker! Our new zone leader is Elder Bighorse's trainer. He has called us almost every night since he got here. He is a new zone leader so he might be a little over-zealous, but I am sure he will do fine. So this upcoming week I have to go up to Fishers for a specialized training for district leaders. Should be a lot of fun because I have some friends in the mission who are district leaders now. So it'll be fun to see them again.

So I got the birthday package this morning! I loved it! My favorite things were the card and the pillow case. It was so random how Jihan signed the card, she seems kinda funny. The front of the card was hilarious! I loved the unicorn spitting out a rainbow, I was laughing so hard! All the quotes on the pillow case were awesome, I thought the batman one was pretty darn funny. I couldn't wait til tomorrow to open it. It'll be a great day anyways. I'll wear a new pair of socks and a new shirt. The socks are awesome by the way. Thank you so much, the package was awesome!

So this week we lost an investigator and possibly another. One of them said that they were too commited to their church. The other one was Leon who had a baptism date for July 14. We went to his house to see how he was doing after having surgury. So we were talking with him on the porch and then his pastor friend came out of the house. He proceeded to tell us that he didn't agree with us telling Leon to live the Word of Wisdom and that it was a commandment from a man and not God. Then he told us to not come back. Then I began to open my mouth to teach true doctrine and I had only gotten a few words out when he interrupted me and then went back inside. It was funny because he gave his opinion and as soon as I began to share what we know to be true, he fled. He was afraid of confrontation and that we may have proved him wrong so he left. I wasn't going to bash or anything, just teach true doctrine. But he couldn't stand to hear a pure testimony. So we are going to go back there on Wednesday and see what Leon has to say because he didn't say a word while this was happening and he couldn't even look us in the eye. So we want to hear out of his own mouth what his feelings are toward what happened.

So we are going to be looking for more investigators now because we just lost 2 solid ones. That was pretty much our week down here in Stone City, USA.

Love,
Elder Robertson

Ya, I'm not sure I want to rush into school that fast. My companion always tells me to stop smiling (jokingly), because I smile and laugh so much. But when I got that college stuff that you sent me he said that I wasn't smiling for like 2 days. It was a little weird to think about that stuff and I am not too thrilled to get back to it so soon after returning home.

Hey!

So transfers is this week but we were told that we are staying for another 6 weeks. So I get another transfer with Elder Bighorse.  And yes, we only go to transfers if we are getting transferred or getting a new companion.  The transfer meeting is my favorite part of getting transferred or getting a new companion. I love seeing old companions or just old friends

So yesterday we went up to Bloomington to say goodbye to one of our zone leaders(who I served with) and a sister who are going home today. It was pretty sad but I am happy for them. I remember when the sister came into the mission field. I am at that point where I see people come and go in the mission. It's weird. But I am going to get in contact with Elder Thomas(the zone leader who is going home) after I get home because we will both be going to BYUI. Thats gonna be awesome.

So work here is going pretty well, we are finding people who are interested in hearing our message, so that's exciting. This last week we decided to go to a bunch of the little towns that are in our area because we had a bunch of extra miles to use. So we found one guy in a little town who said when we found him that a friend had given him a Book of Mormon and that he had some questions. So we set up another appointment because he had to leave right then. That appointment fell through, but we are going to keep trrying to get in contact with him and teach him. We also had a short lesson with a young mother this morning. That was pretty sweet, we have been trying to have a lesson with her for a while.

We had to teach Elders Quorum on Sunday, so we just watched a movie. Finding Faith in Christ.

So that was pretty much our week. Driving to a bunch of little towns in our area and trying to find people to teach.

I loved the pictures! They were awesome! Thank you for those.
We gotta go now so I will talk to you next week! Love you!!

Elder Robertson

21 May 2012

Hey Family,

So this week was super packed with things to do. I had to move our district meeting to Tuesday (it's usually on Friday) because of the leadership conference on Friday. Then on Wednesday night the zone leaders came to blitz our area on Thursday. So they stayed the night and we had our exchange on Thursday, but they had to leave early because there was some problems going on somewhere else in the zone. Then we drove up to Bloomington that night so that another district, the zone leaders, and I could get a head start in the morning. So Friday was the leadership conference and it was a lot of fun seeing all the other leaders in the mission and seeing familiar faces. So that was awesome. Then Saturday was our mission conference with Elder Parker(area authority who just got called this last general conference) and Elder Neil L. Andersen the Apostle. Elder Parker is from southern Georgia. I have never been to a Baptist church before, but I think he sounded a lot like a baptist preacher. It was hilarious! Then Elder Andersen was super awesome. He was pretty funny, I think all of the apostles have that trait. He talked to us for a little while and then he continued teaching us by using a power point presentation titled "The Merits, The Mercy, and The Grace". He went through each of those words and and taught us using the scriptures and teaching out of his own knowledge. It was a very good experience. I can't really do it justice over email, so I will just have to tell you when I get home.

Yesterday we had a pretty good church service. In sacrament meeting there were 2 of the graduating students that spoke and we will have another 2 speak next week. After sacrament meeting the teacher who teaches the 16-18 year olds asked us if we could teach her class, so we did.

Today we are going to have a lesson with a member who is coming back to activity and is going thru the repentance process right now. Her and her family just got back from a Disney Cruise, yeah, be jealous Mom. So I am going to be hearing all about that tonight. We will also be going to Bloomington to be with the other missionaries up there for the day. It should be fun.

So that was my week. It was super busy.

Elder Robertson

14 May 2012

Hey family!

It was wonderful to talk with all of you yesterday! Hope you all enjoyed it as well! You all sound great and grown up! Keep it up! It was the best call I have had so far, a great one to finish on.

I hope all of you made it a great day for Mom, after all, it was her day.

So this week I had an exchange with Elder Santy in Bloomington and it was a lot of fun. On our down time we ran around the apartment with PVC pipes and Nerf darts shooting each other. It was a lot of fun. We were doing it before we went to bed and I bent down to grab a dart on the ground while I had the pipe up to my mouth. The pipe reached the ground before my hand could reach the dart. So the pipe cut into the inside of my upper lip and now I have 2 cuts that I keep running my tongue over. I'm actually doing it right now! So I was bleeding so we had to stop for the night. But we were back to playing it the next morning. Good times.

My training this week was pretty funny. It was on the role of the Holy Ghost in conversion. I had the other two elder teach my companion about how the Holy Ghost feels and commit him to pray about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. They had to do all this with their eyes closed. Whenever the elders taught about the Holy Ghost I would rub their shoulders, it was very hard for them not to laugh. So then he prayed and while he was praying I rubbed his shoulders and he also had a hard time not laughing. It was so funny! My companion thought it was really creepy, but the rest of us thought it was hilarious. I had a hard time not laughing!

So this friday we will be having a leadership conference which should be fun. Then the next day we will be having a mission conference which Elder Neil L. Anderson will be coming. I am so excited for that. It starts at 9 but we need to be in our seats by 8:20 so we will have time to go up and shake his hand when he gets there. I'm not sure we will be allowed to take pictures with him so don't hold your breath.

So that is pretty much what is going on over here.

Love,
Elder Robertson

7 May 2012

Hey Family!

So this week was pretty good. We found a few people who are willing to have us come back to talk about the gospel with them. So that's awesome. One of the people we found let us right in and we got to teach a little bit. Then he let us play the pinball machine he has in his living room. That was pretty fun, I hadn't played that in a long time. I also got a graduation announcement from Jacqie this morning. That blew my mind. I had no idea she was that old. Time just isn't stopping.

So the investigator that we have that is on track for baptism on June 2nd, his name is Leon. Unfortunately we haven't been in contact with him since Tuesday. So hopefully we will be able to get in contact with him soon so we can continue preparing him for baptism.

This week in my training, I trained on how our attitudes affect the work in our specific areas. I felt like it was a really intense training, but fortunately the rest of the district didn't take anything the wrong way. I used a sports analogy that I thought was pretty good. I asked Elder Santy who played rugby in high school how his and his teams attitude was when they knew they were going up against a team that they had no chance in beating. He  said that their attitude was pretty poor and wasn't what it should have been. So I went on to say that I was pretty much the way I felt going into an imminent loss, although I still played my heart out and did the best I could. So I went on to say that if our attitude is that we know we are going to lose and that we have no chance in winning and we are saying to ourselves, "Why even try?" then we might as well throw our jersey in the coaches face and go home. To apply it to missionary work, if we are saying to ourselves, "Why talk to this person, they aren't going to be interested anyways, so why try?" we might as well take off our tag and go sit in the apartment, or better yet, go home. That way at least the mission president can replace you with somebody that will work. I didn't say that last part, but I made it sound that way. I thought it was a great training, the zone leaders did as well when they had called to check up on me, they thought I was super inspired in it.

We were supposed to have 3 people come to church yesterday but none of them showed up. So we will be getting in contact with those people and recommiting them.

So we have our zone conference tomorrow. Here is the exciting part. We have a leadership training on the 18th and a mission conference on the 19th. And guess who's coming. Neil A. Anderson, the apostle! I am so excited for that, I have been waiting so long for an apostle to come and he is finally coming! Booyah!

So that was my week. Well I am gonna get off now cause we want to be up in Bloomington pretty soon. But I love you and I will talk to you on Saturday and Sunday!

Elder Robertson

30 April 2012

Hey Family!

So this week was better than the last one. We got 2 new investigators and a sweet new potential investigator. We also commited one of our investigators to a baptism date of June 2nd. I also went on an exchange with Elder Floyd from the University ward in Bloomington. He was a lot of fun to be with. He loves Marvel(as do I) and old video games for the super Nintendo or Nintendo 64. We connected really well. He is from Texas. He is new to this district, so I went with him first. At district meeting, I trained on extending commitments and following up on commitments. Training at district meetings is not as hard as I would have thought. The hardest part is just coming up with things to train on. But after I come up with something, it is relatively easy to make the rest of the training. I am very grateful for the assignment to be a district leader, it has helped me grow and come out of my comfort zone even more. It was a very inspired move by President Collins.

We also helped somebody pack most of their belongings into a moving truck on Saturday. This family got a divorce and I could just see how much it hurt both of them. And now the lady is moving to Arizona and doesn't have too much of a plan after she gets there. The ward is so worried about her. I just hope it all works out for her.

So I got letters from Aunt Susie and Madison this morning. It was great to hear from them.  I heard Danni had been living there for 6 months, that was news to me, thats pretty cool though that she did that to help out with Nonna.

I can't wait to talk to all of you and hear your voices. It is hard to believe that this will be my last call home before I see you face to face. That is still 5 months away though, so I still got time to serve those whom I have been called to serve.

Hey Mom,

I did have fun in Bloomington last week, we went to the institute and played pool and ping pong. It was a lot of fun. We are going up there again today and we will be playing basketball this time, finally some sports. On Saturday night there was a tornado warning for our county, that was a little scary. We were at a members house when it was issued, so they looked it up on the computer and there was a big storm over us and there was a some red over Paoli(a little town south of our mission). We had plans to go down to Mitchell after our dinner, which is even closer to the heart of the storm. So on our way down there, there was hardcore rain all the way. We hydroplaned a little bit so I took off the cruise control and had my foot on the gas the rest of the way. We made it safely to our destination with harm or accident.

To answer the question in your letter, I have been planning to send home my winter stuff after it gets warm for good because it shouldn't get too cold before I come home.

23 April 2012

Hey Family.

So this week we had transfers as you know. I got put with a missionary who has been out for about 4 months. His name is Elder Bighorse, he is Navajo from Arizona. I will tell you the story behind his name later. He is pretty cool, he likes to talk about home and all the cool stuff that has come out and that will come out in the near future. It's kinda distracting, so I am going to be trying to direct our conversations towards the work and our missions. And you ar totally right Mom and Dad, I can't count on being here the rest of my mission, anything could happen. But President Collins is trying to keep missionaries in areas longer, but it is all by revelation, so if the Lord has other plans for me, then so be it. I'll go where he wants me to go. Although I am tired of having to pack up and move every few months.

Well this week was a little slower than usual. The investigators that we have are kinda flaky. So Elder Bighorse and I are going to be doing a lot of finding activities to get new investigators that will progress. So that is where we are at now here in Bedford. We haven't had too many appointments this week to report on. We have been trying constantly to get in contact with that dog guy, but I think he is avoiding us. We will try a few more times and then we will drop him and leave him in the area book for future missionaries to go by him.

So that has pretty much been my week.

Love,
Elder Robertson

Hey Mom,

Time is going pretty fast for me. This week was a little slow though, I think transfer weeks are always slower than the rest because of all the anxiety and getting used to the new companion. My ward starts at 9:30 and gets out at 12:30. It's weird, I know. I didn't really get sick this winter at all, it was nice. I think I would be happy down here in Bedford for that long, but I will have to see later down the road. I am just tired of moving around every few months. Bedford is great though, I would be okay with finishing my mission here.

Sounds like you had a fun busy week. I am going to get off because we want to go up to Bloomington today to be with the other missionaries. I love you! write me if you have anymore questions!

Love,
Elder Robertson

16 April 2012

Hey Family!

So we got transfer calls this morning and Elder Mills is leaving. I am thinking that I will probably finish my mission here in Bedford. That would be fine with me, I am tired of moving around and packing and stuff.

Yes, we did have thunderstorms and it hit us as we were walking to the car after tracting and we got pretty darn wet.

This week was pretty good though, we had a few miracles happen to us. First, Dave, one of our investigators, got baptized on Saturday, that was awesome. Elder Mills baptized him. I gave the opening prayer.

Next Miracle. So, we were walking down the sidewalk and saw somebody sitting out in front of their garage, so we went and talked to him. Come to find out that he was a lay minister and not interested. So we asked if he knew of anybody that could use a mesage about Jesus Christ. He pointed out 3 houses in his neighborhood in which the people didn't go to church. So we went by all of them right then. The first one wasn't interested, we got an appointment with the second one (which later fell through), Then the third one is where the miracle happened. So we knocked on the door, we heard a bunch of dogs inside, which sounded large and could eat us, Then the guy answered the door and said he wasn't interested and closed the door. So we went to a potential investigators house which was conveniently next door to his, and they weren't home. So as we walked off the doorstep and past that guys house, he came outside and asked "Hey guys, whats your message?" So we told him a little about what we know to be true and he responded with the question "Do you really believe that?" He didn't ask it in a mocking way, but he asked it as if he were truly searching for the truth. We testified that we did believe it with all our hearts. He then proceeded to tell us that he had been though a lot recently and that he was looking to get back into church, and that he didn't want us in right then. So we asked him if there was a time that we could come back and he said that he didn't know. So we gave him a pamphlet with our names and phone number on it and told him to call us when he was ready. So he said that he would and then went back inside. So we went and continued on with our plans and about 15 minutes later he called. He said that he had thought about it and that he wanted us over, so I asked when we could come over and he replied with as soon as possible. So we headed over there immediately. So we went to his house and knocked, he opened the door and one of his dogs heads poked out the door and it was a huge Ruger. It was a weimeraner, just a lot bigger than they are supposed to be, I'm guessing it was bred with a great dane, cause it was big. He also had another weimeraner, a chihuahua, and a dog that was 73 percent wolf with Alaskan Malamute. I loved the wolf dog, it was huge and friendly. Apparently his dogs usually don't warm up to people like they did to us and he said "Maybe they know something is different about you." So we had a great discussion with him in which he told us all the stuff that has been happening recently and we were able to teach and testify of truth in the process. It was awesome! So we are going to give him a call today or tomorrow and set up another time to come over. I am totally going to get a picture with his dogs one of these times.

Hope you enjoyed that miracle experience.

Love,
Elder Robertson

10 April 2012

Hey!

So this week was pretty good. We had our interviews with President Collins on Wednesday and went on exchanges with the zone leaders on Friday. I loved both of those! President and Sister Collins came to our apartment to interview us, it was kinda weird but cool at the same time. I got to go up to the IU campus for the exchange, that was pretty fun. I got to teach a guy from taiwan and some other dude. We did some personal contacting on the campus for about 15 minutes is all, I was happy about that cause I was afraid to be talking to a lot of college kids. But it was not as bad as I had feared, I actually enjoyed myself. The zone leader I was on exchanges with did all he could to help me out as a district leader. I am so grateful for him, he really helped me a lot.

The weather here has been really weird. It was super warm a little while ago, and now it is cooling down again. Indiana is so weird when it comes to the weather. I am used to Oregon weather just gradually warming up and cooling down with the seasons. But here the weather just does what it wants, theres no real pattern.

Well thank you so much for the packages and stuff that you sent me! I loved it! My Easter was pretty good. We had a barbecue with our ward mission leader's family, and then we had another dinner with a recent convert and her non-member family. It was a really good day. One of the young women invited a friend to church and he came. We had forgotten something in our car and so we went out to get it. This guy parked right next to us and was getting out of his car right as we were walking up. So we greeted him, shook his hand, introduced ourselves, and showed him inside. Afterwards, the young woman came up to us and thanked us for saying hello to this guy. She said that he was excited to be greeted by us, and that he had enjoyed himself there. It was pretty inspired that we went outside at the perfect moment to greet that guy, it was awesome.

Our P-day did not go according to plan yesterday. We went and got the car washed, got our groceries, cleaned our apartment, the we went to the church to write letters and play the piano. We would have emailed yesterday but the libraries were closed because of Easter. But anyways, we weren't even at the church for an hour when some guy knocked on the door. He had been out of a home for about a month and had been staying at a motel since then and had to check out that morning. I don't know how he came across our church but oh well. So we spent the next 4 hours or so, just sitting in the church trying to figure out how to help this guy. We made calls to some people in the ward, but it didn't really work out. So after a long time he was just going to leave, so Elder Mills offered to pay for another night for him. So he did and we walked him down to his motel and then later in the night we went by with left-over food that we had in the fridge from members and gave it to him. It was a crazy P-Day. So because that happened, we got some extra time today to do P-Day stuff. Crazy story, right?

So that is the big stuff that happened this week.

Love,
Elder Robertson

2 April 2012

Hey Mom!

I like the title to the email! I loved that they sung that song in conference, it was epic (Come Thou Fount). I loved conference! I don't know if you noticed, but at the end of Elder Holland's talk he said "It's getting late." That was pretty crazy, hinting towards something that may not be too far in the future. I loved his talk! People needed to hear that. I also loved President Uchtdorf's talk, and that he said "Stop it, it's that simple." There were a lot of great talks this conference and I can't wait for the ensign to come out! Remember Donald F. Evans who gave a talk? I met him when he came to our mission, he was pretty awesome. He said in his talk that emails are not the same as letters, that was awesome.

I did get the package and I love the new back pack already! It is tiny and can hold a bladder just like I wanted. Thank you mom! I also enjoyed the letter that I got a couple of days later.

So you know how I have the habit of picking up dead animals on the road and taking pictures with them? Well this week I found my favorite one and I will let you figure out what it is by the picture. I hope you like it! My companion was so grossed out by it, it was pretty funny. I was like "I finally found one!" It was a big one too. I was in heaven. The only way we found it was because we had decided to walk for the day. We saw miracles because of it. So we were walking along and this lady drove up to us and asked if we were mormons. We replied that we were. Then she asked if we had an extra book that she could have because she said that we might have a mormon president and she wanted to find out more about what he believed. We excitedly got out a Book of Mormon and gave it to her and asked if we could come by and talk to her a little bit more. She said that she was in a hurry on the way to the doctor but asked for our number so she could call us. This was on Tuesday and we haven't heard from her yet, but we keep praying for her! If we had been driving or biking, we would have gotten to where we were going too fast and would not have been able to give her that Book of Mormon. Sometimes we are inspired in strange ways. We walked a lot that day and it was a sunny and hot day. I got pretty tan because of it!

Well for planned service here in Bedford, since you wanted to know, we help out at a food pantry doing whatever they need help with. We also help out at a local museum here in town doing what they need help with as well.

So that was the biggest miracle we saw this week and I hope you enjoyed hearing/reading it.

So my training that I gave this week was on getting out of the rut. Trying to break the habits that we sometimes get into unintentionally and don't even know it. So we had a good discussion about that. This week we are going to have a discussion on this thing called "Check Your Progress", it's for checking where we are at in our missionary skills. It should be good.

Well I think that is it for this week!

Love,
Elder Robertson

19 March 2012

Hey!

So my week was pretty good. I realized that I messed up my address last week when I gave it to you. My apartment number is 2, and the zip code is 47421, not 47451. Sorry about the mix up. So this week has been more productive than any week I had in my last area. We actually have investigators that keep appointments and commitments. It is awesome! One of our investigators has read the entire Book of Mormon, the Pearl of Great Price, and has read all the way up through section 121 of the Doctrine and Covenants. He is going to be baptized on the 14 of next month and he is totally ready, as you can probably tell.

Church was only one hour yesterday because most of the ward was down in Henryville helping with the disaster relief. The High Priest Group Leader had to conduct the meeting because he was the only leadership there. They put a picture of Henryville on the front of the program. It had an American flag in the foreground and carnage all around. It is crazy how much destruction nature can cause.

I gave my first District meeting training on Friday. I wasn't as nervous as I thought I was going to be, which was a relief. I think your prayers really helped.  I gave my training on desire and how it affect everything that we do, and the desire we show is what the investigators will see and there desire to learn will grow depending on where your desires are. It was a pretty good meeting overall. It didn't last as long as district meeting usually last. They are usually 90 minutes, but since we have a very small district and the other companionship doesn't talk very much, it lasted 60 minutes, which isn't bad by any means. This week the zone leaders will be training my district so I don't have to worry about training for 2 weeks.

I am starting to learn to play the piano a little bit. We have started taking about an hour out of the day to call people to set up appointments. We go to the church to do it so we don't have to sit in the apartment. So since my companion knows how to read music, he taught me a little bit and now I can play the top hand slowly for a few hymns. Awesome!

So that was pretty much my week!

Love,
Elder Robertson

P.S. Loved the package! Thank you so much!

12 March 2012

Hey Family!

So I got transferred all the way down to Bedford! The ward directly south of where I was 1 year and a few months ago when I was in Bloomington. Being a district leader is weird. I never thought I would be where I am now responsibilities wise. I conducted my first district meeting on Friday and I took numbers from my district last night for the first time. Everybody says I will do great, but that still doesn't ease the nervousness. Now I am preparing for the training I am going to give on Friday at district meeting, super nervous for that. But I feel confident that the Spirit will lead and guide me through. That's not pride, it's self confidence and confidence in the Holy Ghost. Luckily, one of our zone leaders is an old companion of mine and he was a district leader when he was with me. So that helps a lot to have somebody that I was close to be there for me to call for advice when I need it.

My new address is:
1805 "O" st.
Bedford, IN
47451

I don't know if you remember, but when I was in Bloomington the work was not doing very well at all. It is pretty much the same situation right now. So I am going to be trying to give advice to the elders there of things they could do to find new investigators so they can have a bigger teaching pool. Hopefully I will be able to help them because I don't want them to be in the same situation I was in, because that sucked. All I ask is that you keep me in your prayers, cause I need all the help I can get.

My companions name is Elder Mills, he is from Utah, and we get along so well I love him. We will not be going to Henryville because it is out of our mission and there will be plenty of people going and helping already. yes members have basements here. Thanks for the advice!
There is only me and my companion in this area, and we cover a bunch of small towns in the area as well. There are trees around, just not may. Love you! Gotta go!

Hey Mom!
So we got transfer calls this morning and usually the assistants to the president call to tell us if we are being transferred or not. But this morning President Collins called and asked me to be a district leader and told us that we were being double transferred out. So I agreed to be a district leader and now we both have to pack. It is going to be crazy, I never pictured myself being a district leader. President Collins must be getting desperate for mission leaders if he had to ask me. I will just have to do my best I guess. I kinda had the feeling this was going to happen, but I really didn't want it to. Oh well.
So on Friday we did have bad weather but no tornado to be seen. We were on bikes and we got totally drenched. It ruined our phone so the assistants had to bring down a new one for us. We were without a phone for about a day which totally sucked because we couldn't call anybody for anything, so we went to the apartment office to use their phone to call a few people after we had dried off. So that was pretty much the extent of our contact with the storm. It was pretty dumb, we got soaked and we got hailed on a little bit by some pretty good size hail.
Last P-Day we went and played basketball with the other elders in our district and Elder Kovach broke the outside bone on one of his feet and had to go home for surgery. It was so sad to see him go, but he will be back out in about 3 months after having his surgery and recovering. He won't be going home the same time as us which will be pretty sad. But he will finish out his mission, that's all that matters.
So my week has been pretty hectic and filled up with having to take elder Kovach to the doctor and getting our new phone. It's been crazy to say the least.

Elder Robertson

Awesome week!!

Hey Family,
So I got the gloves and the other stuff you sent and the questionnaire you sent me. I did fill it out and I will be mailing it out today. But it sounds like you had a great week. My week was pretty good, Sunday was the best day this week.
So this week we found a new investigator. He is paranoid schizophrenic. We had 2 lessons with him, one on Tuesday and one on Saturday. The first one he was a little emotional and just weird and we didn't know what to do, he asked us to read the first chapter of James to him, so we did. We weren't going to go back but he asked if we could come on Saturday and read the bible with him. So we went just to honor his wishes and we were going to leave it at that.  So we went over there on Saturday with one of the ward missionaries and he was much different this time. He was very calm, collected, and had many questions. The things he asked lined up almost exactly with what we teach, it was amazing. So we taught a pretty condensed restoration lesson. So at the end he asked if we could come once a week and we agreed. He also asked that we give him a blessing because he knew from his study in the bible that the true church had priesthood keys and could pray over people by the laying on of hands to cast out evil spirits. So he asked Elder Bushman to give the blessing. Then we left and that is the end of the story.
Sunday we had the most intense PEC meeting I have ever attended so far. The bishop started out and said they were going to spend the meeting going through the whole ward roster and figuring out all the people they didn't know anything about, people for the ward leader to check on, and people the bishopric to to go visit to see if they wanted their names removed. We were able to contibute quite a bit because we had visited just about everybody that they didn't know anything about. So Bishop trying to find people who want their names removed or people who are "do not contacts". Then at the end of the meeting they were totally praising us for all of the work we have done in the ward with visiting the people that they don't have time to go see. That made us feel pretty good about all the hard work we have put into this area. Although we may have sparked this desire in the bishop to go take these peoples names off the church records, it isn't doing them any good to have their names in the church if they aren't going to come or to live by the standards they know to be true.
So those were pretty much the cool experiences of the week. Hope you enjoyed them!

Hey!
So this week was alright. A little long, but okay. I think the reason why these past 2 weeks have seemed long is because I haven't gotten any mail. Weeks seem to be longer when that happens.
Well we have been going by many, many inactive members and finding that they don't live there anymore. So we have been reporting that to the leadership in the ward and they are very impressed and grateful that we are doing this. We have definitely made great strides with improving the relationship between the ward and the missionaries. They trust us much more now, and we get a meal just about every night! It's awesome!
So that is the most exciting thing that is happening over here. I cut my own hair last night, it looks pretty good. I don't know if I ever told you that I do that. I got my own clippers early on in my mission and I have been cutting my own hair the entire time. I do pretty good. I just need my companion to clean up the back of my neck.
We got to go to the Why I Believe fireside last night, so that was cool. There we a couple of people that were hilarious, it was probably the best Why I Believe I have been to.
So that is pretty much the cool stuff this week.

Moving Day!!

Dear parents and family,

Brother Andy Von Harten, of Greenwood, Indiana, sent this picture to me and asked me to send it to the parents of the missionaries in the picture.  I told him I would be tickled to do so.  Brother von Harten said this group had just finished moving the missionaries from the old apartment to the new apartment and no one in the picture had had time to freshen up.  I think it’s a good looking group, don’t you

The people in the picture include, from left to right, Andy von Harten, Larry Ellis, Daniel Biehl, Elder Robertson, Elder Luster, Mark Wright (in the back), Tom Barclay (in the yellow shirt), Elder Steele, Elder Johnson, Elder Bushman (behind Elder Johnson), and Elder Simmons (above Elder Bushman.

6 February 2012

Hey Mom,
So I am doing well and having fun while staying busy. Even when we aren't busy we are busy, as I am sure you remember from your mission. While the Super Bowl was happening we stayed inside and cleaned and did some work in the area book. So that was time well spent I think. It would have been super ineffective to proselyte because everybody would have been watching the game.
So the most exciting thing of the week was our move! Our new apartment doesn't smell like smoke and the people around us don't yell at each other. It is in a nice complex and there is an old member couple that live close-by.Our new address is:
8515 Red Oak ct. apt G
Indianapolis, IN 46227
So this week I went on an exchange with our district leader, his name is Elder Kovach and we came out together and we are pretty much best friends. He is from Colorado and I am totally going to visit him sometime after the mission. We have so much fun together, I hope one day I get to serve with him.
BTW, that commercial sounds really funny, I wish I could have seen it. Oh well. I am happy the Giants won though! Go Giants! All hail the New York Giants! (get the Madagascar reference?) So as much as I would like to go up to the Lucas Oil Stadium, we can't leave our area without permission from the mission president. But I will probably buy a souvenir or two for the Super Bowl.
The 9 year old is being a 9 year old and hasn't really been in the mood to be taught the past 2 lessons. So hopefully we can get him to pay attention during lessons so we can keep him on track for baptism.
I told Mitchell about a cool/funny/crazy story this week, so if you want to hear it, ask him about it so I don't have to repeat myself.
Our pday plans are probably the same, just going shopping, eatting out and then going to the church.
Love,
Elder Robertson

30 January 2012

Hey Mom,
So my week was pretty good. Neither of us got transferred, I forgot to tell you last week that it was transfers week...Oops. I just can't keep track of anything anymore. But as you heard, we are moving apartments tomorrow. It is definitely a better apartment and it will smell a lot nicer as well because there is a family from India that lives next door so we get to smell their cooking. Although it is not as good of a location as this run down apartment is. But oh well, I will just have to live with it. I am going to miss those people in there as well, even though they were rowdy and loud and had bad habits, they loved us.
We have no idea what is going to happen on Super Bowl Sunday, because it will be super ineffective to proselyte because everybody will be watching the game. Last year was different because it wasn't here, but now that it is here, there will be pandemonium. It will be interesting.
So like you heard we had set a baptism date for that 9 year old, but now he says he doesn't know if he wants to get baptized or not. He is just being a very difficult 9 year old, just as they usually are. But he keeps changing every time we go over there, so we will see what happens.
We had a lesson, sort of, with a former investigator. We talked with him for a little while and got to know him and his past experience with the missionaries. He had read a little bit of the Book of Mormon but got bored very quickly, so he stopped reading. So we asked what would keep his attention. He said "wars, blood, and gore!" So we were like, we can show you everywhere in the Book of Mormon that you can find that stuff. So next time we go over there we will have a list of those chapters and we will give him the background on those chapters so he won't be totally lost when they refer to other people in the Book of Mormon. He has also had lots of dreams about just crazy weird stuff. One of them that he described in detail was pretty much what the Spirit World is. The way he explained it wasn't the way we explain it, but it was very, very similar. He told us other dreams he has had and it was a strange feeling when he was telling us about some of them. But he seems like he could progress very well if we can keep his interest, because he said that he loses that very easily, so we will probably have to relate things to his dreams because he holds onto those very strongly.
Do you remember how before I got emergency transferred the first time that I was with one of the elders that came out with me? Well that same elder is now in my district! Now there are 3 of us that came out together in the same district, we are just in different companionships. It is pretty cool.
So that is pretty much my week in a nutshell.
love,

Another great shot!

Here is a GREAT SHOT by a sister in another ward that also met in thier building. She sent in to Elder Bushmans mom and she sent it to me!  Elder Robertson must be going to thrift stores on his day off, because I do not recognize any of those clothes!  Love him!

So through the awesome support system of Missionarymoms.com, I got into contact with Elder Robertsons companions mom!!  How wonderful!  She send me some past letters of her sons along with this picture taken at Christmas time.  His companion is Elder Bushman from Arizona. Great picture!!

23 January 2012

Hey Mom,
So this weeks weather was crazy. We had a thunder storm early on in the week. Then we kinda had a mini ice storm. Now we are having more rain and last night was really warm, I didn't even need my over coat. Indiana weather is just crazy.
This week was a little better than the last one. We met with a lot of less-active members. I have been told that missionaries have done that a lot in the past. It seems like that is all we can do because we can't seem to get any new investigators. Oh well. But the ward is starting to trust us more and more. We have gotten a few referrals from members this week which has been awesome. Even though they didn't pan out so well, it is great to know that people are starting to trust the missionaries. We have to give talks on this coming Sunday. I am going to talk mostly to the youth for the first part and talk about the missionary schedule, Preach My Gospel, White Handbook, and the missionary calling. Then I am going to talk to everybody about Preach My Gospel because it seems like everybody thinks that it is only for missionaries which is completely and 100% false. So I am going to help them see how Preach My Gospel can apply to them and help them in any way they need. I have been in most of these families homes so I have been able to see that this is what I should speak on. I have never been pumped up to give a talk in sacrament meeting before, but I am for this one. It is gonna be awesome.

It makes me very happy that I made some sort of an impression on the kids I played Lacrosse with. I hope I still have my skills when I come home so I can keep up with Mitchell.

Elder Robertson

16 January 2012

Dear family,
So my week was okay. We had a few more things going on than past weeks. So that was nice. I played basketball this morning with a bunch of elders and members of the church around here. So that was fun. Sunday we had our ward conference. We had a lesson with a nine year old. Our first lesson with him was crazy because he wouldn't sit still. This lesson was better because I bribed him with a candy bar. Thank you for all the pictures you sent me of the house with all our stuff in it, that really helped me. Thank you for everything mom, you're the greatest! I love you! bye!

9 January 2012

Hey Mom,
So this week was another slow one. That little 10 year old we were meeting with on and off dropped us. Her mom is hot and cold when it comes to church, the bishop told us it doesn't surprise him at all that this is happening. We did meet with the 9 year old, but he is super ADHD and can't sit still at all. He got up so many times in the middle of the lesson for just random stuff, kinda like Parker. The girl who went on a mission, 2 of her sisters came to church on Sunday, and it was the first time in a long time that they have been to church. That was pretty cool that we got to witness that.
I am glad you are happy with the new house, I would like to see pics of all of our stuff in there one of these days. So I bought a Lacrosse stick last week like I said I would, I was going to by some gloves as well but all of them that they had there were like 90 dollars and up. So I just got the stick. I want to swing by Play it again sports to see if they have any gloves there. Time to start practicing.
So we have presidents interviews tomorrow. I am pretty excited about that. After everything that has happened since the last interview, I am sure it is going to be a good one.
Well I don't really have anything else to report on, the work is really slow again, just like last winter.
I am doing pretty good, although I have been extra tired these past few days for some reason. Me and my companion are doing well, we get along just fine. I heard that the elder that plays lacrosse in my zone got emergency transferred because one of their investigators was writing them love letters. Today we were going to play ping pong first thing but that didn't work out. I am excited about interviews because it seems like forever since I have had one. We haven't had snow since last Monday. We are teaching the 9 year old, I told you about him already. We haven't played trouble yet. I don't really know what kind of weather I want anymore. I complained all through the summer, and I found myself complaining about the cold. So I don't know or care about weather anymore.

3 January 2012!!!

Hey!
So we got our first real snow of the winter yesterday. It was coming down so hard, it was awesome. So yesterday was an awesome P-Day. We ate at Buffalo Wild Wings, played basketball and dodge ball with the zone. Then I discovered that one of the elders in my zone played lacrosse back home and we talked for a while about that, that was pretty awesome. He said that if I got a stick he could string it for me, so today for part of break I am going over to Dick's sporting good and I am going to pick out a stick. So don't be surprised when you see some money missing from my account.
So the work hasn't quite picked up yet, although it has been the holidays still. So we didn't really get any lessons or anything spectacular to report on unfortunately. We had a couple of visits with less-active/inactive members so that was kinda cool. The probably coolest part of the week was Sunday. We got invited to a 9 year old's birthday party who hasn't been baptized yet. He has an older sister who is entering the MTC tomorrow and going to temple square in Salt Lake City. So we talked with her for a little while and answered the questions that she had. The cool thing is, that she was inactive and came back to activity in the church and is now going on a mission, I can't imagine how much courage that change must have taken. Anyways, I was impressed by that.
So that was pretty much the only cool thing that happened that I can remember. I hope the move went well and that nothing got broke or lost.

 Happy Birthday!!
