11 June 2012

Hey Family,

So my birthday was okay. Nobody fed us, so I made myself a ham sandwich for my birthday dinner. The exciting thing was that as we were driving somewhere, there was a turtle in the road and I stopped and took a few pictures with it. It was pretty sweet, I was hoping to find a snake as well, but the turtle was pretty awesome. This birthday was the most normal day of my life. I'm not complaining though, it wasn't a bad day, it just didn't feel like a birthday.

So we finally got in contact with some investigators that we haven't seen in a while. We saw Leon who got in contact with an old pastor friend. We had a nice conversation with him but it was cut short because he had to go help his son. We also got in contact with a girl named Sierra. She is looking for a church but is very sceptical about jumping into anything without knowing enough about it. So she is taking it slow and steady. We found a few other people who invited us back, one of which said that she has never heard anything about our church before. Perfect! A fresh start without any outside influences.

The training up in Fishers was pretty fun. We received training from President Collins and a training from each of his assistants. Then at the end we just counciled with President Collins for 45 minutes over any issues in the mission. It was pretty sweet to be in a setting like that with all the district leaders of the mission. President Collins told us how important we are to the mission. He said that we are like the bishops of the mission, we hear problems from other missionaries, we give training every week, and we report on our district every week to our zone leaders. We are also entitled to revelation on behalf of our district, which I have experienced. I never thought being a district leader would be this awesome. I just hope this isn't preparing me for a similar calling in the future.

So that was my week. Sounds like everybody else had good weeks as well according to the emails I have received.

Love,
Elder Robertson

Hey Family!

So this week was alright. We got one new elder to our district and he seems pretty cool. His name is Elder Lowe and he is from Utah, shocker! Our new zone leader is Elder Bighorse's trainer. He has called us almost every night since he got here. He is a new zone leader so he might be a little over-zealous, but I am sure he will do fine. So this upcoming week I have to go up to Fishers for a specialized training for district leaders. Should be a lot of fun because I have some friends in the mission who are district leaders now. So it'll be fun to see them again.

So I got the birthday package this morning! I loved it! My favorite things were the card and the pillow case. It was so random how Jihan signed the card, she seems kinda funny. The front of the card was hilarious! I loved the unicorn spitting out a rainbow, I was laughing so hard! All the quotes on the pillow case were awesome, I thought the batman one was pretty darn funny. I couldn't wait til tomorrow to open it. It'll be a great day anyways. I'll wear a new pair of socks and a new shirt. The socks are awesome by the way. Thank you so much, the package was awesome!

So this week we lost an investigator and possibly another. One of them said that they were too commited to their church. The other one was Leon who had a baptism date for July 14. We went to his house to see how he was doing after having surgury. So we were talking with him on the porch and then his pastor friend came out of the house. He proceeded to tell us that he didn't agree with us telling Leon to live the Word of Wisdom and that it was a commandment from a man and not God. Then he told us to not come back. Then I began to open my mouth to teach true doctrine and I had only gotten a few words out when he interrupted me and then went back inside. It was funny because he gave his opinion and as soon as I began to share what we know to be true, he fled. He was afraid of confrontation and that we may have proved him wrong so he left. I wasn't going to bash or anything, just teach true doctrine. But he couldn't stand to hear a pure testimony. So we are going to go back there on Wednesday and see what Leon has to say because he didn't say a word while this was happening and he couldn't even look us in the eye. So we want to hear out of his own mouth what his feelings are toward what happened.

So we are going to be looking for more investigators now because we just lost 2 solid ones. That was pretty much our week down here in Stone City, USA.

Elder Robertson

Ya, I'm not sure I want to rush into school that fast. My companion always tells me to stop smiling (jokingly), because I smile and laugh so much. But when I got that college stuff that you sent me he said that I wasn't smiling for like 2 days. It was a little weird to think about that stuff and I am not too thrilled to get back to it so soon after returning home.

Hey!

So transfers is this week but we were told that we are staying for another 6 weeks. So I get another transfer with Elder Bighorse.  And yes, we only go to transfers if we are getting transferred or getting a new companion.  The transfer meeting is my favorite part of getting transferred or getting a new companion. I love seeing old companions or just old friends

So yesterday we went up to Bloomington to say goodbye to one of our zone leaders(who I served with) and a sister who are going home today. It was pretty sad but I am happy for them. I remember when the sister came into the mission field. I am at that point where I see people come and go in the mission. It's weird. But I am going to get in contact with Elder Thomas(the zone leader who is going home) after I get home because we will both be going to BYUI. Thats gonna be awesome.

So work here is going pretty well, we are finding people who are interested in hearing our message, so that's exciting. This last week we decided to go to a bunch of the little towns that are in our area because we had a bunch of extra miles to use. So we found one guy in a little town who said when we found him that a friend had given him a Book of Mormon and that he had some questions. So we set up another appointment because he had to leave right then. That appointment fell through, but we are going to keep trrying to get in contact with him and teach him. We also had a short lesson with a young mother this morning. That was pretty sweet, we have been trying to have a lesson with her for a while.

We had to teach Elders Quorum on Sunday, so we just watched a movie. Finding Faith in Christ.

So that was pretty much our week. Driving to a bunch of little towns in our area and trying to find people to teach.

I loved the pictures! They were awesome! Thank you for those.
We gotta go now so I will talk to you next week! Love you!!

Elder Robertson
